Ingredients
4 oz fresh mozzarella, cut into 1/2-inch thick sticks
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, beaten
2 oz panko breadcrumbs
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder
2 cups vegetable oil for frying
2 oz marinara sauce for serving
Instructions
1
Cut fresh mozzarella into sticks about 3 inches long and 1/2 inch thick. Pat completely dry with paper towels and place on a plate lined with paper towels. Freeze for 30 minutes to firm up.
2
Set up breading station with three shallow dishes: flour in the first, beaten eggs in the second, and panko mixed with salt, pepper, and garlic powder in the third.
3
Remove mozzarella from freezer. Working quickly, dredge each stick in flour, then egg, then panko, pressing gently to adhere. Place on a clean plate and freeze for another 15 minutes.
4
Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer to 350°F. Working in small batches, fry mozzarella sticks for 1-2 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
5
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels for 30 seconds. Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
