The Story
Our Calabrian Hot Chicken was born from a late-night craving that married Southern comfort with Italian fire. We take crispy fried chicken and bathe it in the smoky heat of Calabrian peppers, then cool it down with creamy house-made mozzarella and a drizzle of hot honey that'll make you question everything you thought you knew about fried chicken sandwiches.

Bring the heat of Southern Italy to your kitchen with this addictive fried chicken sandwich. The Calabrian peppers pack a smoky punch that's perfectly balanced by creamy fresh mozzarella and sweet hot honey.
Ingredients
2 boneless chicken breasts (6 oz each)
2 cups buttermilk
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
4 cups vegetable oil for frying
3 tbsp Calabrian peppers in oil, chopped
2 tbsp oil from Calabrian pepper jar
3 tbsp honey
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
4 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
2 brioche buns
2 lettuce leaves
2 tomato slices
Instructions
1
Pound chicken breasts to even 1/2-inch thickness. Marinate in buttermilk for at least 2 hours or overnight in refrigerator.
2
In a shallow dish, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
3
Heat oil to 350°F in a heavy pot or deep fryer. Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge thoroughly in seasoned flour, pressing to adhere.
4
Fry chicken for 6-8 minutes until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F. Drain on wire rack.
5
While chicken fries, make Calabrian pepper sauce by mixing chopped peppers with their oil. For hot honey, warm honey slightly and stir in red pepper flakes.
Assemble sandwiches: bottom bun, lettuce, tomato, Calabrian hot chicken, fresh mozzarella slices, generous drizzle of hot honey, and top bun. Serve immediately.
